Annual Report: Financials & Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 |
October November July 2025 |
A Message from the Alumni Board President
Brothers, We are pleased to present the annual report of the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association for the fiscal year 2023-2024. During the period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024, your alumni association:
As I look through my president’s letters from this fiscal year, I notice a consistent theme is asking you, our brothers, for help. We have had largely the same group of alumni running the show since this iteration of the alumni association re-launched approximately 3 years ago. I said in last year’s annual report that I don’t feel we have enough alumni brothers involved for our efforts to be sustainable, unfortunately, I still feel the same way today. I would love to understand what would motivate you, our alumni brothers, to consider donating your time to help our alumni association. With more participation, there is so much more we can do. Rather than improving things slowly but surely, chipping away at years of deferred maintenance on the house, more participation would let us aim higher. Please send your ideas to me at President@ohioalphabeta.org. This is your alumni association; we need you to participate in it! I would like to close by thanking the members of the alumni board who drive our ongoing efforts: Patrick Glynn, Nathan Kossover, Christian Carson, Davey Rowan, Ken Nagano, Aaron Mann, and Maynard Isabell. We’d also like to our two newest regular volunteers, Timothy Kill and Gary Jarkewicz. Thanks are due to everyone who donated to the Alumni Board, particularly the members of the Ernie Schmidt Club who committed to an ongoing recurring monthly donation. We also greatly appreciate the support of everyone who attend any of our events in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Lastly, a special thanks goes to the “Geezers” group from the late 1950s for their ongoing support. I hope that next year, I am able to say that we do have enough alumni brothers involved for our efforts to be sustainable in the long term. Yours in the Bonds, Nicholas DeCenzo

Annual Report: Financials & Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 |
||
Brothers, As your Treasurer, I am pleased to report that the Alumni Association remains in a strong financial position. The Cleveland Phi Kappa Theta Alumni Corporation, responsible for our social and alumni events, and the Ohio Alpha Beta Housing Corporation, which oversees the fraternity house, continue to thrive. The majority of our donations come through the Alumni Association and are directed toward supporting the Housing Corporation for vital repairs and maintenance. Financial Overview:For the fiscal year 2023-2024, the Alumni Association received $22,341.74 in donations. Additionally, the Treehouse rental (the apartment over the garage) brought in $10,450.00 in rental income. Other income sources, including recovery of unclaimed funds, totaled $1,282.40, resulting in a total income of $60,755.94. Breakdown of Expenses
The Housing Corporation continued to allocate significant funds towards repairs and maintenance of the fraternity house, as well as the upkeep of the Treehouse. Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025:The budgeting process for the Alumni Association starts with an allocation of cash on hand. Fundraising yields from the budget year will be allocated for spending in the subsequent fiscal year, ensuring that the Alumni Association will never become insolvent by virtue of spending within our budget. Committee chairs submit their budget requests to the Finance Committee in March-April, which assembles a proposed budget based on the available dollars for budgeting. A final vote on the budget as proposed is held is held by the full board in May. As we look ahead to the upcoming fiscal year, the following budget allocations have been set to ensure we continue our success and maintain our strong financial position:
In addition to revenue from fundraising efforts, we are expecting continued rental income of $12,100 from the Treehouse, which will provide a vital contingency fund for unexpected expenses. The fiscal year 2023-2024 has been a remarkable year for the Alumni Association, marked by robust donations, steady rental income from the Treehouse, and disciplined financial management. Our collective efforts have delivered long-needed upkeep and improvement of the fraternity house, and valuable social opportunities for both actives and alumni. As we move into the 2024-2025 fiscal year, we remain committed to maintaining our strong financial position. The generosity of our alumni, coupled with the prudent use of our resources, will allow us to sustain the mission of Phi Kappa Theta and ensure that the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter continues to thrive for years to come. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and contributions, which have made these achievements possible. We look forward to another successful year ahead. Yours in the Bonds,

Annual Report: Donations
We launched the Ernie Schmidt Club on Founder’s Day 2024. The Ernie Schmidt Club is named for the only member of our chapter ever to have been honored with the Ohio Alpha Beta Lifetime Achievement Award. Members of the Ernie Schmidt Club commit to making a small monthly recurring donations to the alumni association. Many small donations will add up to a larger monthly total that will help us tackle the larger deferred maintenance projects at 11016 Magnolia, particularly those that require the special skills or equipment of an outside contractor. We would like to thank those brothers who joined the Ernie Schmidt Club before June 30, 2024: |

Annual Report: Membership
Brothers, The Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association is open to all initiated brothers in good standing of the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter of Phi Kappa Theta at Case Western Reserve University, as well as any brothers initiated into either of our predecessors organizations, Theta Psi Kappa or the Alpha Beta chapter of Phi Kappa. As of October 1, 2024, we have 1037 undergraduate and alumni brothers listed in our database. 43 of those brothers are members of the Chapter Eternal. We were informed of the passing of three of our members in the last fiscal year: J. Carl Besich, Paul Motylinksi. Thomas Prioreschi. We currently have an email address for nearly 630 undergraduate and living alumni in our database. This rose substantially from the 595 brothers cited in last year’s report. This increase is largely due to sustained efforts by a group of volunteers. Many thanks are due to Robert Fedor, Gavin Brown, Thomas Dunn, James Miller, Rich Jerdonek, Timothy Kill, Michael Mele and Robert Stalder, who collectively helped update the information of more than 115 brothers. The remaining brothers listed in our database are not currently receiving the Paragon because we lack an email address for them. We are working to identify every brother who was ever initiated into our chapter and to ensures we have contact info for as many of them as possible. Please reach out to Nathan Kossover with any corrections to our membership rolls. Yours in the Bonds, |
