A Message from the Alumni Board PresidentBrothers, In our last Paragon, we laid out several projects that will need to be done to ensure the long term safety and health of the house. Although we have invested plenty of sweat equity in 2022 and will continue to do so in 2023, parts of these projects must be done by contractors who have the proper expertise and tools for the job. As anyone who has ever hired a contractor recently knows, good help does not come cheaply. To that end, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who has donated to our organization since our December Paragon. These donors include Frank Kearney, John Dutton, Nathan Kossover and two brothers who preferred to remain anonymous. In addition, Patrick Glynn and Tony Rossi committed to making a recurring monthly donation, and Brandon Palmer increased the amount of his monthly commitment. These collective donations will allow us to fund another project in 2023. It is clear that our members value the work that we were able to do to the house in 2022 and our planned work in 2023. Thank you, brothers! To learn how to donate, please visit our website. As a further incentive to donate now, 30 members of the classes of 1958, 1960, 1961 and 1962 have banded together to assist us. They have generously agreed to match up to $3000 in donations through the end of February. Read more about their involvement and their generous offer below. Many thanks go out to them for their enthusiastic support! Yours in the Bonds, Nicholas DeCenzo

We are sure that all of you remember the positive impact that your time as a Phi Kap at Case Western Reserve had on you. Being a Phi Kap has helped form who you are as a person and has provided a wealth of lifelong friendships. At least, that is how a group of 30 Phi Kap alumni from the classes of 1958-1962 feel. Since the beginning of Covid in 2020, our group has been meeting weekly, via zoom, sharing old memories and new experiences, discussing current issues, and getting familiar with the current members and status of our old chapter. As a result, we found that the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter had been in decline over recent years, but that the current chapter had a successful rush this past fall and is gaining momentum. We are continuing to help them plan for more positive rushes to regrow the chapter. We also found that the Fraternity house, because of the decline in membership and its age, needs continual maintenance and improvements. We also discovered that Phi Kaps from more recent years have revitalized the Alpha Beta Alumni Association and have contributed both money and labor to maintain and upgrade the fraternity house. However, the reserve fund for improvements is getting too low to fund the necessary improvements. As a result, we decided to help them replenish their reserve fund. We are pledging $3,000, as a matching fund, for the first $3,000 raised from now to the end of February 2023 for the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association’s 2023 Fund Drive. We urge each of you to contribute at least $100 to this 2023 Fund Drive to enable the Alumni Association to make the necessary improvements to the fraternity house and continue the positive momentum of the chapter. Can we count on you? Go to https://www.ohioalphabeta.org/support-our-work/ to learn how to donate via PayPal or via check. Thank you in advance for your contribution. In brotherhood, The Phi Kappa Theta classes of 1958, 1960, 1961 and 1962 |

Late in 2022, one of the old cast iron pipes used to vent the primary sewer stack from the second-floor bathroom to the roof began to leak. While fortunately the leak was “only” rainwater, it’s never a good thing when water is going where it isn’t supposed to.
Brothers temporarily mitigated the leak by making a hole in the dry wall and positioning a bucket under the leak. We originally believed that we would need a contractor to address the problem permanently. Faced with multiple estimates over $3000, a group of alumni decided to see if they could fix it themselves. Over the course of one very long day during winter break alumni Ken Nagano, Dave Rowan, Joe Gall and Nate Jacobsen spent a combined 47.5 total hours replacing the entire venting pipe with brand new PVC as shown below.

Their hard work prevented more water damage and saved us nearly $3000 in contractor costs. Thank you, brothers!
