Case Western Reserve University’s Bicentennial Homecoming Weekend is October 8 through 11. Join the undergraduate brothers and fellow Phi Kappa Theta alumni for a Phi Kappa Theta Homecoming dinner at 11016 Magnolia on Saturday, October 10.
Beginning at 4:30pm, we will start the evening with a happy hour. Enjoy a beverage, catch up with old friends, see how the house looks today, and learn about what the Alumni Board has been up to. Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. At 6:00pm, help yourself to a hearty baked potato and chili bar! A variety of toppings will be available, including vegan options.
Please RSVP on our website by Monday, October 5 to make sure you don’t miss out. Tickets for alumni and their guests are $35 each. Tickets for Undergraduates and their guests are $20 each. Do you feel like working up an appetite before the Homecoming Dinner, or possibly working off the dinner the next day? On Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, we will be holding our Fall 2026 Work Weekend. We will be doing an assortment of small projects around the house from about 9am to 4pm on both days. The number of volunteers has a direct influence on the projects we choose to do, so your advance registration via the website is much appreciated.
Even if you are unable to assist with projects, we encourage you to drop by and say hello during the day, especially if you can’t make it to the Phi Kappa Theta Homecoming Dinner on Saturday night.
And if you can’t make it all, consider supporting us in spirit. Most of the funding for our projects comes from donations by brothers such as yourself.

Brothers -
My name is Cameron Markowitz, and I'm excited to introduce myself as the new Alumni Chair for the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter of Phi Kappa Theta.
I'm a junior at Case studying civil engineering, and this is my second year as a member of Phi Kappa Theta. As many of you know, a large group of seniors recently graduated, leaving a significant gap in our chapter. As we look to bounce back, I'm a firm believer that one of our chapter's biggest strengths is the strong connection between alumni and active members. As Alumni Chair, I hope to expand upon this connection to support our recruitment efforts and help move our chapter forward.
One of my goals as Alumni Chair is to create more opportunities for alumni and active members to interact. With that in mind, here are some upcoming dates for alumni events. Please write them on your calendar now; details will follow as we get closer.
- The Long Walk / Initiation – Saturday, November 14
- Phi Kap Thanksgiving – Sunday, November 22
- Spring 2027 Work Weekend – Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21
- Summer 2027 Work Weekend – Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25
- Fall 2027 Work Weekend – This will be on the Saturday and Sunday of Case’s 2027 Homecoming Weekend, which has not been announced as of this date.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and working with the Alumni Association throughout the year. I'd also love to hear any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts you have as I get started in this role.

| Contractor Projects Ongoing |

11016 Magnolia has some beautiful trees surrounding the house. The largest of these trees probably date back to the original construction of the house back in 1915. They are tall, beautiful, provide some much-needed shade to the house and yard… and hang over the house enough to make our insurance company very nervous.
We have signed a contract with Highpoint Tree Service to trim back each of the trees that have branches that hang over the house. As these branches are quite substantial, this will require getting a crane in place to lower the branches to the ground. We are not removing entire trees, so per the tree experts consulted, this work is best done late in the year after the trees have gone dormant for the winter. As such, we don’t have an exact date for the work to be completed, but by the end of the year these branches should no longer threaten the house, and both our roof and our insurance company should be less nervous.
This contract costs $2300 and is being paid for entirely by alumni donations. We appreciate your ongoing support! Going forward, the active chapter will budget regularly for tree trimming, which should be much cheaper once we’ve removed these large branches.

On our website, you can find an archive of all of the email Paragons that this iteration of the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association has sent out since 2022. Of course, this is not the first iteration of the Alumni Association; in the distant past we used to send occasional Paragons out via the postal service. Thanks to Gary Jarkewicz ‘75, we can now share some of these Paragons with you for historical interest.
Brother Jarkewicz was going through some of his possessions and found a pile of paper Paragons ranging from 1990 to 2007. These have now been scanned into PDF format and posted on the website in our Paragon Archives. For example, the May 1991 issue announces that we won the 1990 President’s Cup as the #1 fraternity on campus. More excitingly, it also has a write up of the 50th Anniversary Celebration held on April 20 and 21, 1991, where more than 80 actives and alumni witnessed Ernest Schmidt ‘41 receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Thank you to Brother Jarkewicz for preserving these parts of our history. We hope all of you can take some time to look through the archives and see what memories they stir up. And if you have old Paragons that aren’t already featured, let us know! We’d love to get them on the webpage. And for that matter, if you know when we chose the name “The Paragon” for the newsletter, we’d love to hear that story too.
