The new school year is just around the corner, which means the undergraduate chapter is gearing up for Fall Rush. Do know someone who will be attending Case this fall who would be a perfect fit for Phi Kappa Theta? Maybe they are your son, grandson or nephew. Maybe you know them from your neighborhood, or your work, or one of your activities. Have someone in mind? Hit reply and send us their names and any contact info you have for them so that the undergraduates can reach out to them. And we urge you to pitch the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter to them before they come to campus!

Our chapter was honored to receive the Outstanding Service Event Award at the 2026 Giortaste Greek Life Awards ceremony in recognition of our partnership with the Lutheran Men's Shelter and our commitment to serving the greater Cleveland community. Throughout the year, brothers volunteered by preparing and serving dinners for the shelter's residents while also organizing weekly morning visits focused on building genuine connections. During these visits, brothers spent time talking with the men, playing board games, and creating an environment of fellowship, encouragement, and mutual respect.

Rather than viewing service as a one-time event, our chapter emphasized consistent presence and meaningful human connection. By returning each week, we sought to demonstrate that service extends beyond meeting immediate needs—it also means investing time, listening to others' stories, and fostering a sense of community. This recognition reflects our chapter's commitment to living out the principle of give expecting nothing thereof, serving others with humility, compassion, and without expectation of recognition or reward.

Our Summer Work Weekend kicked off on Friday, July 17, with a last-minute night out at Boss Dog Brewing in Cleveland Heights. Attendees included Nate Jacobsen ‘04, Joe Reed ‘03, Neal Pence ‘01 with his wife Carrie, Thomas Andersen ‘04, Nathan Kossover ‘01, Ken Nagano ‘01, Davey Rowan ‘01 with his wife Noelle, and Patrick Glynn ‘00.

On Saturday morning, July 18, the work began and continued through Sunday afternoon. Project highlights include:

• Work continued with the bathroom next to the Wine Cellar bedroom in the basement at the bottom of the back stairs. The cement floor was leveled, and new vinyl flooring was installed. This bathroom still needs some drywall work and painting but is otherwise fully operational.
• Speaking of dry wall, the Wine Cellar bedroom had all its dry wall mudded, sanded, cleaned and primed. The walls are ready to paint. The cement floor needs to be leveled on a future work weekend.
• Grout was added to the tiles on the front porch.
• The door between the East Wing and Greenhouse bedrooms on the second floor was repaired.
• Yardwork was done.
• The toilet flushing mechanisms in the second-floor Greenhouse bathroom and in the third-floor bathroom were replaced. A plumbing access panel on the third floor was repaired.
• Filters were replaced in the basement dehumidifier and in the kitchen water fountain.
• Two exit signs in the second-floor hallway were replaced and repaired.
• Multiple outlets were replaced.
• The Cave bedroom on the third floor had a new light fixture installed and paint applied.
• Lots of garbage was thrown out, including the appropriate disposal of three deceased window air conditioner units.

We completely failed to take a group photo on either day, or apparently any photos with brothers in them at all, so we apologize to any brothers we may have missed!

Our third and final work weekend of the year will take place on October 10 & 11. This corresponds with Case’s bicentennial homecoming celebration, so make plans now to drop by and say hello!

As anyone who has ever owned a house knows, finding competent contractors can be a time-consuming project. We currently have quotes for two contractor projects that we expect to have completed in 2026.

We recently hired a contractor to fix the sink behind the bar in the basement. This was a smaller project that required repairs to the drainage line for the sink. The cost of nearly $5000 was covered by the undergraduate chapter.

The Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association exists to connect the over 1000 alumni of the Phi Kappa Theta Ohio Alpha Beta chapter at Case Western Reserve University through events, newsletters, and other gatherings.

Our subsidiary organization, the Ohio Alpha Beta Housing Corporation, exists to own, maintain, and improve the Ohio Alpha Beta Chapter House located at 11016 Magnolia Drive, Cleveland, OH, 44106.
