Joe Jirgal ‘88 is the 19th brother who has signed up for the Ernie Schmidt Club. His commitment to make a monthly donation to support the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association means that we now have a collective $12,000 in committed donations per year, or more than $1000 a month. Thank you, Joe! To put that in perspective, in the 2024-2025 fiscal year we were just shy of $9300 in total donations (not counting event fees). This means that the committed donations in the 2025-2026 fiscal year are already higher than our actual donations for the prior fiscal year. Thank you! Whether you join the Ernie Schmidt Club or you make a one-time donation, your financial support makes possible all the work we do at the house, whether during work weekends or via contractors. We hope you’ll join as the 20th (or 21st, 22nd or, dare I say, 85th) member of the Ernie Schmidt club. |

You are cordially invited to join the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association for our 2025 Homecoming Event on Saturday, October 11. We will meet for dinner at The Fairmount Cocktail Bar in Cleveland Heights at 6:30pm for a buffet menu including: * Vegan Buffalo Cauliflower Please register and pre-pay for dinner on our website by Monday, September 29 to make sure you don’t miss out on Homecoming 2025! The cost is $70 each for alumni members and their guests, and $60 each for undergraduate brothers and their guests. Alcohol is not included with your registration but may be purchased separately. After dinner we will meet at the Phi Kappa Theta House at 11016 Magnolia for the Phi Kap Night Cap. There will be desserts and light refreshments and some great conversation with your brothers! There are a few questions about our undergraduate chapter that come in regularly from our alumni, so we are going to turn it over to current undergraduate president Adam Gousie ‘25 for Frequently Asked Questions: How many active brothers are there currently? As of the start of the fall 2025 semester, we have 28 active members. What else is going on at the chapter? We have hosted an annual “Foam Party” for at least a decade, if not longer. Our most recent iteration of this party turned it into a philanthropy event. We raised $284.76 for the Alzheimer's Association of America. The Active Chapter would like to thank Chase Kuntz ‘07 for sending us some vintage rush t-shirts from his time as an active. If you have any old Phi Kap clothing or memorabilia that you don’t know what to do with anymore, we are always happy to make a home for it. It is a great way to connect the current chapter to years past, and it’s fun to see what you guys did when you were young and stupid like us! |

| 2025 National Convention Report |

During the first weekend of August, Phi Kappa Theta hosted our 65th Biennial Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Abhinav Kalhan ‘26 and Matias Torres ‘26 represented our chapter at the convention to learn about the exciting updates that Nationals had planned and meet the other chapters across the nation. The major update is that the National office is moving forward with the launch of a new program called Chapterspot with the intent of connecting chapters together for better communication and making daily fraternity tasks easier. National is also planning to launch new tools that will help alumni stay in touch with their chapter. For more exciting news, a new chapter has been started at Louisiana State University, and two colonies are emerging at Purdue University and Ohio State University. The two brothers who went learned a lot from the convention and had this to say about their experience: “This being my third national convention that I went to, I always learn a lot not just from Nationals, but also the brothers from other chapters. The national convention is always a nice reminder that our fraternity has not just created a brotherhood and community at Case Western, but also colleges across the country.” The highlight of the trip was the awards ceremony that closed the convention. Our chapter received the Bronze Award, recognizing us as a top three chapters in all of Phi Kappa Theta. This award not only symbolizes our achievements, but also all our hard work that has been done over the past few years. This award is an immense honor and a powerful reminder that with dedication and unity, even greater successes lie ahead for our chapter. |

| Fall Work Weekend |
|
|
Our third and final work weekend of 2025 will be held on Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16. We will kick off the weekend with a social event at Boss Dog Brewing in Cleveland Heights on Friday, November 14 at 7:00pm. Everybody will cover their own food and drink. To RSVP, please reach out to Ken at nagano@ohioalphabeta.org. Then on Saturday and Sunday we will invest a lot of sweat equity in 11016 Magnolia Avenue. We are lining up a full slate of projects for both days. The more people who volunteer, the more we will get done. To help us plan, please RSVP now for one or both days on our website. |

| Join Us for Initiation |

There will be no social event on the Saturday of our November Work Weekend because we will be initiating our newest brothers into the Ohio Alpha Beta chapter that night. Initiation will be on Saturday, November 15 at Eldred Hall. The Long Walk will start around 8 pm, with Actives heading to Eldred Hall to set up shortly after. Alumni who want to participate should arrive at Eldred around 10:30 pm, with the ceremony starting around 11pm. As is customary, the associate members will be taken out to dinner that night. You are invited to join the active chapter and associate members at Mallorca at 5:30pm. Alumni will cover their own costs. More details to follow via email. |

| Alumni Assist with Fall Rush |

The active chapter hosted a select group of Potential New Members earlier this month at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Valley View. We appreciate the support from alumni Max Alexy ‘24, Casper Artman ‘25, and Ken Nagano ‘01, who turned out to eat wings and talk about how brotherhood is for life. This marks the fifth consecutive rush period that the Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association has sponsored a rush outing to Quaker Steak. As with previous iterations, costs were covered for undergraduates and potential new members. |

As noted in the Fall 2025 issue of Case Alumnus Magazine, Philip H. Eberhart ‘63 passed away June 11, 2025, in Leesburg, Florida. His obituary can be found here. The Ohio Alpha Beta Alumni Association extends its condolences to the family, friends and fraternity brothers of Brother Eberhart. May his memory be a blessing.
